JV on CBC’s The Hour
April 4th, 2007 | by Farzad |A few days ago Jacques Villeneuve was interviewed on The Hour which is a Canadian Broadcasting Corp. show. It wasn’t an earth shattering interview except that JV made no attempt to hide the fact that he wants to race in NASCAR.
Also I realized tonight that the man has absolutely no charisma whatsoever. I also realized that I’ve been a fan all along because of 1) his father 2) the 96 and 97 F1 seasons. Maybe that’s enough.

JV has always been a knob. It’s ironic that everyone thinks Villeneuve is a wonderful person and Schumacher is a horrible monster because of their on-track behaviour, but off the track it’s a different story altogether.

Fair comment Farzad although I think JV was a little nervous on ‘The Hour’. I saw him on Speed channel with Dave Despain and he was a much better interview. Let’s face it, because JV has not really performed since ‘97 - for whatever reasons - a lot of people don’t care what he has to say.
Waldorf, perhaps he is not wonderful but I would not call him a knob; that is just my opinion. He is however one of the few drivers that we have seen in F1 who could fight it out with Schumi - wheel to wheel - and win.
Enjoy the next race in Europe. Silly season begins.

Actually I agree with you Penwick. I saw him on Speed as well and I thought the interview was much better. He has his moments but that interview on The Hour was terrible. Probably has to do with the interviewer as well.

With all due respect to Giles V , I think in most cases racing talent does not run in the family . Sadly JV is not half the man his father was .Giles V has more talent in his little finger than JV has in his whole body .
The only reason why JV is world champ is because of the 1997 Williams Renault . I think the voice of F1 once said you could put a puppet in that Williams , and it would win the driver’s world championship. In the era of reactive suspensions , launch controls etc etc … they don’t make them like they used to ala A Senna , J Clark , S Moss , F Fangio….

I wish I was old enough to see Gilles V race. From the footage I have seen and from listening to fans from the ’70s and ’80s, he was a special driver…a true racer that is needed in the sport these days.
